Image revival – the restoration of a photograph

“Schlachtfest” – An old image restored and rivived
Digital Image Restauration
A photo from around 1912 shows a group of people against the backdrop of a rural home. Eight adults posed for this shot, which has been taken on a Schlachtfest day, that is a little private feast following the home-slaughtering of a farm animal (a pig in this case). And there is, the focal point of the scene, a little girl in the centre.
This photograph is faded by time and it is spoiled by many impurities and scratches, but since it has a certain meaning to me I decided to restore it digitally.
In an additional step I tinted the image and turned it into a full-colour image. The colouring of b-w photos is a vintage technique of the old days, when photography was possible in black-and-white mode only. So I do not merely preserve this little scenery by a restored print but also bring back somehow the liveliness of the moment by reviving the image in its colour dimension.
Extensive retouche work has been done on this image
The aim was to correct faults and dirty bits as much as possible, but also to preserve the photo’s integrity and original graphic characteristics
